Rooview is a personal, independent and honest restaurant guide for South Australia. Established during the long weekend of Easter, 2005 to fill the void of restaurant guides and honest opinions around Australia - but especially for Adelaide, SA.
Note: The word ‘restaurant’ is used to also include bars, cafes, bistros and other eating places.
The two contributors have behind them years of diverse dining experience from dining at three starred Michelin restaurants to crunching on chicken feet. Memorable moments include: being ushered by a rifle bearing valet into a restaurant in Barcelona; seafood so fresh it began to escape when squeezed with lemon juice; and getting creative in a toilet without paper (what did the kitchen staff use?).

All restaurant visits are unannounced and paid for by Rooview (there is no such thing as a free lunch). Reviews are conducted over a single sitting. There are no formal criteria for selecting a restaurant to be reviewed. If you would like to be reviewed please email reviews@rooview.com.au.
The issue of scoring restaurants is complicated. Is it fair to compare a pub counter-meal to a fine dining restaurant? If you can’t compare scores between different types of venue you will end up with too many highly recommended restaurants. As a result, Rooview provides no score out of ‘x’ but instead a system of ‘Roos’ (kanga’roos). Australian Gourmet Traveller uses stars, Sydney Morning Herald uses Chef Hats - an Rooview uses ‘Roos’.
Up to three ‘Roos’ can be awarded to a restaurant. A restaurant with a ‘Roo’ awarded is an achievement and worth going out of your way to experience.
One ‘Roo’ is highly recommended.
Two ‘Roos’ is unmissable if you like the cuisine and ambience (casual / formal).
Three ‘Roos’ is near perfection - a must try.
Achieving a ‘Roo’ is an acomplishment to be proud of - generally it offers good food, service and atmosphere a cut above the rest.
Most reviews will have no rating at all. This does not mean it is bad (or good) - some of our most visited restaurants have no ‘Roos’ awarded. You will need to read the text of the review to determine if this place is for you.
We would love to hear your thoughts and ideas on our rating system - please send them to ratings@rooview.com.au.
Rooview has no family, relatives or close friends who run a restaurant in SA. Neither of the two contributors has worked for or been closely associated with restaurants, suppliers or food producers in SA. If any possible conflict of interest arises it will be disclosed in the Review.
